Courses are tailor made...
What can you expect?
We will cover seasonally important info like what to grow and when. For example in spring you could be chitting your early crop of potatoes i.e. Sharpes Express. Here we have boxes (egg boxes and other cardboard boxes) full of soldier like spuds standing with their eyes pointing skyward, getting an early start on root production. In 4 weeks they'll be ready to plant.
We will share techniques. Such as seed sowing broad casting, drills, trenches and seed saving.
We will give ideas. Have you ever seen strawberries grown in a straw bale? Or heat from manure used to germinate seeds?
We will explore D.I.Y. composting. Find out all you need to know to make a wormery, comfrey feed and gorgeous compost for your veggies.
We will meet gardening friends and foes. Find out about common pests and diseases and how to arm yourself against the baddies! Did you know that snails are 'homing' up to 100metres? This means that if you tipped a bucketful over the garden fence they'd all be back by morning. We will take a peek. As we grow our food we'll take inspiration from the plots around us. We will talk about how we enjoy sharing our food. For example we have been enjoying jerusalem artichoke, celeriac and three cornered leek coleslaw.
We will get grubby. Most exciting of all, we will always have a handson project to take home.
In addition we will make items that cost next to nothing, using recycled materials, that work just as well as shop bought items. Plus you will have automatic membership to the Talbot Road allotment Shop, which can supply gardening goodies at a reduced rate.
